2/3 Goat |
An NYC-Based Metrobilly Band |
2/3 Goat’s song and music video, “Stream of Conscience,” directly address the band’s opposition to mountaintop removal coal mining, a cause close to their hearts.
Mountaintop Removal is a violent process of coal mining in which the top of the mountain is blown off to gather a thin seam of coal, and the leftover material is placed into hollows, burying streams that have formed over thousands of years. Mountaintop removal contaminates the water supply of the citizens of the Appalachian Mountains, obliterates the natural wildlife and beauty of the oldest mountain range in the world, and it also contributes to the even more universal issue of global warming, threatening the very existence of life on this planet.
A Statement from The Band Against Mountaintop Removal Coal Mining:
2/3 Goat has taken a stance against mountaintop removal coal mining, which is destroying the land and the people of Central Appalachia, where Annalyse McCoy is from. Coal has been king for over a hundred years in Appalachia. Taking rock from under the ground is one thing; but blowing up mountains, burying thousands of miles of freshwater streams, inciting flooding in areas where it’s never been a problem, and causing the highest cancer rates in the nation from industry runoff is another. Mountaintop removal also takes away more and more jobs from an area that desperately needs them. It’s time we take a stand. Our song and music video “Stream of Conscience” are focused on this very topic. Appalachia is Rising!
